COVID-19 Pandemic Hasn't Ended, Necessary To Wear Masks: Maharashtra CM

According to the latest reports, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday, February 22 stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has not ended and that it is still required to wear face masks and ramp up vaccination. 

Based on accounts, after inaugurating a hospital and medical college online in Raigad's district at Alibaug, Thackeray remarked that vaccines against coronavirus curtail the severity of the infection. He reportedly noted that vaccines act as a "suraksha kawach" which means protective shield. 

Thackeray also mentioned that the coronavirus pandemic has not finished yet. He mentioned that questions are being asked about how long citizens will have to keep wearing masks. He responded to the same by uttering that it is difficult to comment on the same presently. He believes that at this time when cases are falling, vaccination needs to be ramped up. 

Maharashtra on Monday, February 21 had inoculated 3,84,948 in 9,504 sessions. Based on the data released by the government, as of 7 am on Tuesday, 15,41,22,242 people have been vaccinated. Similarly, on Monday, the state reported 806 new COVID-19 cases. With this, the total number of active cases stand at 14,525. 

In other developments, on Monday, for the first time in 22 months, Mumbai reported less than 100 daily coronavirus cases. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) health bulletin, the city recorded 96 new cases of COVID-19, which is the lowest single-day rise after April 17, 2020.
