Asia Cup is an opportunity to get the right combination before the World Cup: Rohit Sharma

Cricket’s greatest event is just eight more months away and every cricket-playing side is trying to make the best out of the available options. In an attempt to build a balanced team, the captains have been making experiments and finding the right combinations. Similarly, Mumbai Indians captain and Indian Cricket Team’s stand-in captain Rohit Sharma hopes that the six-nation Asia Cup will be a deciding factor for working towards the team’s ‘perfect combination’ for the upcoming World Cup.

The Men in Blue have a commendable top-order that performs when required. However, the team’s middle order hasn’t been up to the mark and so, the team is still searching for the right combination. The Indian Cricket Team has various talented batsmen that qualify as good batsmen but none of them have been able to add their value to the team to their optimum potential.

Talking about the importance of Asia Cup Sharma said,

In a way, you can say that. Every team wants to go to the World Cup in a good frame of mind. But we shouldn’t be looking too far ahead. Obviously, the Asia Cup gives every team an opportunity to get the combination right before the World Cup.”

However, the Mumbai cricketer also added that the World Cup is far ahead and there would be several games offering exposure to various players and provide them an opportunity to fixate their spot in the World Cup squad.

India will begin their Asia Cup stint against Hong Kong on September 18 prior to playing against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 19.
