On Tuesday, a drunk flyer was offloaded from a Mumbai-Bengaluru IndiGo flight for allegedly molesting a 20-year-old female crew member. Later, he was booked under section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and was produced before the Andheri court on Wednesday and was remanded to police custody.

According to the police official, Bengaluru resident Raju Gangappa allegedly pressed the woman’s back and passed a lewd comment while entering the plane. The incident delayed the flight which was scheduled to take off at around 9:30 pm by half an hour.

Gangappa, who is in the publishing business, was on an official visit to Mumbai and was flying back when he committed the offence. The incident took place when the crew member was welcoming flyers onboard flight 6E-825.

Immediately after the incident, the woman alerted the pilot and the flight superintendent. In her complaint, she said,

The flyer pressed my back and when I retaliated, he abused me verbally. I informed my senior of the incident before the flyer was offloaded with his baggage."

The on-board officials then informed the IndiGo flight in charge who summoned Central Industrial Security Force officials and detained Gangappa.
