The family of 22-year-old Mayank Lohar, who was allegedly stabbed to death inside a Mumbai local train following an argument over a coach door, has demanded the death penalty for the accused, saying only the harshest punishment would deliver justice.
Speaking after the incident, Mayank's sister said the family had lost everything and urged authorities to ensure strict punishment for the accused. She also questioned why none of the passengers in the crowded train compartment intervened to save her brother during the attack.
The incident occurred aboard a Churchgate–Nalasopara fast local train when an argument reportedly broke out over whether the coach door should remain open during heavy rainfall. The dispute escalated, and Mayank was allegedly stabbed inside the moving train. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Police arrested the accused, identified as Roshan Suvarna, within hours of the crime after tracking his movements through CCTV footage from across Mumbai’s suburban railway network. Investigators said the accused was apprehended while allegedly attempting to flee.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over passenger safety on Mumbai’s local trains, with commuters and public representatives calling for stronger security measures across the suburban rail network.
