The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday when the luxury vehicle reportedly lost control at high speed, struck a road divider and overturned multiple times. The impact left the car mangled beyond recognition.
The victims have been identified as Yogesh Negi (24), a resident of Badlapur, and Rebecca Jacob (24) from Mumbai. A third occupant, Angad Gill (26), sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kalyan.
The three friends were reportedly returning from a birthday celebration in Titwala when the crash took place on a section of the expressway that is still under construction.
Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media has added a dramatic dimension to the investigation. The footage allegedly shows the BMW's speedometer touching 251 kmph moments before the crash. Police are examining the authenticity of the video and investigating whether it was recorded during the fatal journey.
Authorities are also working to determine who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Preliminary investigations suggest overspeeding may have played a major role in the crash, though officials have not yet reached a final conclusion.
The incident has reignited concerns over reckless driving and the dangers of speeding on newly developed highway corridors, particularly stretches that remain under construction.
