Special PMLA Court relief for Chhagan Bhujbal; Cannot be arrested till August 6

Former Maharashtra Deputy CM and NCP senior leader Chhagan Bhujbal got relief from special PMLA court on Wednesday in connection with the Maharashtra Sadan case. Bhujbal will not be arrested till August 6 as per the court’s order. Similarly, the court has ordered Chhagan Bhujbal to pay a personal bond.

Chhagan Bhujbal, who was under arrest under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), had asked the court to free him on his bail after the cancellation of Article 45 (1) of the PMLA Act.

Chhagan Bhujbal had applied for bail in the Bombay High Court on April 2 mentioning that he had been in the jail for the past two years. He further added that at the age of 71, he has grown weak and is ill and needs treatment. He appealed to the High Court to go through his application to be released on bail. In response, the High Court granted bail to Bhujbal during the hearing.

Earlier, Chhagan Bhujbal and his nephew, Sameer Bhujbal had filed an application in the court for bail. However, the sessions court had rejected the application for bail, after which he went to the High Court. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Bhujbal on March 14, 2016, in connection with the Maharashtra Sadan fraud case.
