Mumbai: Tenant murders homeowner over electricity bill, arrested

Over a dispute of the electricity bill payment, a tenant killed the landlord with a hammer. This incident took place in Govandi. The owner of the house, who was seriously injured in the beating, died in the residence. The matter came to light after two days when a bad smell started coming from the house. The 63-year-old accused was arrested by the Shivaji Nagar police in this case.

The name of the deceased is Ganapati Jha (49) and he used to live in Baiganwadi area. On Thursday, locals informed the police about the foul smell coming from the residence. Accordingly, when the police went to the spot and inspected it, it was found that Jha had died two days ago.

Later, when the cousin of the deceased, Dinesh Jha, inquired, he understood that he had a fight with his tenant Abdul Shaikh (63) over the electricity bill. Locals said that Sheikh beat Ganapati with a lame stick and a hammer. Accordingly, Dinesh Jha lodged a complaint with the Shivaji Nagar police about this. After that, the police registered a case of murder and arrested Abdul Sheikh.
