Mumbai: Accused arrested in gold smuggling case after a year

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has succeeded in arresting one person after a year in connection with gold smuggling. Two accused have been arrested earlier in the same crimes and gold worth around INR 2.25 crores has been seized from them. Some gold smuggling gangs are active from Dubai. The gangs bring gold from Dubai through various means and sell it in the Indian market. DRI had laid a trap to stop them.


In May last year, DRI officials received information about the smuggling of gold worth crores of rupees from Dubai. After that information, the officials started searching the luggage of every passenger coming from Dubai at the international airport. At that time two passengers who had come from Dubai were detained by these officials. DRI seized gold worth around INR 2.25 crores from his bag.

Both passengers were later arrested in connection with gold smuggling. It was revealed that Naresh Devurkar was involved in his investigation. But he escaped after the arrest of both of them. He was smuggling gold from Dubai with the help of his other associates. Therefore, these officials had undertaken a special campaign to arrest him. He was arrested by the authorities two days ago while this search operation was going on.
