Two labourers lost their lives after a crane collapsed at an under-construction DahisarBhayandar Link Road project site near Bhayander West railway station, on Sunday May 3, as per the report by Hindustan Times.

According to officials, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when work was underway to set up a casting yard for the project. A gantry crane, used for heavy lifting operations, reportedly collapsed after its platform gave way, trapping workers present at the site.

Emergency services were immediately rushed to the spot, and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital. However, two labourers succumbed to their injuries, while a few others sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment.

Authorities have registered an accidental death case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the collapse. Officials are also probing whether safety protocols were followed at the site and if any negligence on the part of contractors or engineers contributed to the incident.

The Dahisar–Bhayandar Link Road project is a key infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity between Mumbai and its northern suburbs, as well as easing traffic congestion on existing routes.
