IIT Bombay Sees Salary Growth Despite Drop in Placement Rate

Placements at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay during the 2024–25 academic year reflected a contrasting trend. Although the overall placement percentage fell to around 70%, salary figures showed notable growth. The average annual package climbed to nearly INR 26.45 lakh, while the median salary touched INR 20 lakh, both marking an increase of over 10% from the previous year.

The decline in placement numbers has been linked to global economic uncertainty and slower recruitment activity across the engineering sector. Even so, students from branches like Computer Science and Engineering continued to attract strong offers, particularly from top recruiters.

Companies in sectors such as technology, finance, and consulting maintained healthy salary packages despite hiring fewer candidates. Recruiters continued visiting the campus, underlining IIT Bombay’s strong standing among employers.

At the same time, many students expressed concerns over limited job openings and tougher competition during the placement season. Some pointed to the changing global tech landscape and the growing influence of AI on entry-level roles, while others raised issues related to placement coordination and interview scheduling.
