As Ganeshotsav, the most celebrated festival in Mumbai, is set to arrive in August, most of the big mandals including Lal Bagh cha Raja and Chinchpokli cha Chintamani have decided to cancel the massive festivities this year due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic.
As per media reports, Municipal Corporation’s legal committee chairperson and Shiv Sena Corporator of ward 7 Sheetal Mhatre and Shiv Sena Corporator of ward 11 Riddhi Khursange, along with former Corporator Bhaskar Khursang, have asked the public mandals in their areas to select their favourite Ganesh idols and worship materials by July 20.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had recently appealed to all the public Ganeshotsav boards in the city to keep the Ganesha idols under four feet of height, and to celebrate this year's festivities in a simple manner, in the light of the coronavirus crisis. This step taken by the Shiv Sena Corporators will ease the financial burden on the public Ganpati mandals in the area.
