Coronavirus cases in Mumbai saw an increase after Ganeshotsav 2020, and observing the rise, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the state health department took charge of the situation with an aim to offer relief to the citizens. However, with the onset of cold weather and Diwali, experts expect the number of COVID19 patients to rise again. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also shared the information in a public address before Diwali and urged the citizens to remain vigilant, both during the festival and 15 days after it has passed.
Meanwhile, officials have witnessed the same as the cases have increased in the last few days, and as of now, a total of 1,031 new cases have been reported along with 13 deaths.
Keeping the awareness protocols in mind, the BMC has also started increasing the number of tests in Mumbai, and on Thursday, November 19, 2020, a total of 17,300 tests were performed in the city, out of which 1031 patients have been found infected with COVID19. With 13 new deaths, the toll has risen to 10,637.
On a positive note, 553 patients recovered from the infection and were given a discharge; and currently 9,046 patients are undergoing treatment. The doubling rate in the city, as per BMC records, has dropped to 296 days.
Maharashtra, on the other hand, recorded 5,640 new patients with 155 deaths, and with increasing cases post-Diwali, the health department has said that the concerns are serious. The total number of coronavirus patients in the state has crossed 17.68 lakh and 46,511 people have died, taking the fatality rate in the state is 2.63 per cent.
In the last 24 hours, 6945 patients from different parts of the state recovered and returned home. During the day, 377 new patients were found in Nashik district, 335 in Pune city, 165 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, 248 in the rest of Pune district and 379 in Nagpur city.
As of India, a total of 45,882 people infected with the coronavirus were identified in the last 24 hours, taking the total to over 9 million on Friday, November 20. At the same time, more than 84.28 lakh people recovered taking the recovery rate to 93.6 per cent.
As many as 584 people died of coronavirus and the death tally has crossed 1.32 lakh so far revealed the Health Ministry report. The fatality rate in the country is at 1.46 per cent, and currently there are 4.43 lakh active cases in the country, which is 4.92 per cent of the total number.
