After a massive chaos in Kerala due to the floods, almost 325 people lost their lives and many are admitted to public hospitals suffering from diseases. Along with the relief material, on August 20, Maharashtra sent a team of 55 doctors from Mumbai’s JJ Hospital to provide 24x7 medical assistance in Kerala.

However, the biggest challenge for the doctors here was to cope up with the language of commoners in Kerala and the medical experts took up this challenge by learning Malayalam to be more efficient with the patients.

Doctors have been assigned interpreters to understand the language and communicate with the local patients. However, the interpreters are not always around with the doctors. To resolve the issue of communication, the doctors initiated to learn the language by writing down important words.

Mumbai doctors learned basic Malayalam which helped them to communicate with the locals. Doctors are supposed to arrive in Mumbai on August 27 after providing medical services to more than 20,000 patients.
