South Mumbai buildings experience rise in COVID-19 cases

The civic body of Mumbai, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) clocked an increase in cases of coronavirus in three buildings in C Ward of South Mumbai over the past one week.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Jawahar Mansion, a five-storey building in Fanas Wadi, has recorded 13 cases of the coronavirus whereas Akhil Bharat CHS has registered seven cases in the last week. Another building, namely Bharat Mahal, had also reported seven positive COVID-19 cases. The C ward which consists of the areas of Marine Lines, Kalbadevi, CP Tank, Fanas Wadi, Koliwadi, Chira Bazar and Bhuleshwar have been experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases.

On the other hand, in view of the growing number of cases, Mumbai's civic corporation had earlier announced that people not wearing masks will not be allowed entry inside public transport buses, taxis and rickshaws. Furthermore, the officials also said malls, societies, offices etc. will have to strictly paste ‘no mask, no entry’ stickers as part of measures taken to increase awareness among people about the coronavirus outbreak norms involving face coverings.

Furthermore, the officials had informed that this important decision was taken in an e-meeting chaired by Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal. The officials also informed that the ward offices will convey the decision to taxi and auto-rickshaw unions as well as the management of other establishments.
