Mumbai: Locals oppose skywalk construction in Malad

The Malad skywalk work by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is currently halted due to opposition from the local politicians and citizens. As per the BMC's project, the skywalk will be connecting the Malad Metro station to the Malad Railway station. Another reason to plan the skywalk was for smooth connectivity at Malad east. It can help to clear the crowded, narrow Daftari road.

Reportedly, the project will cost around Rs. 36 crores. The civic body has said that the project is now delayed due to opposition from locals since they feel that their privacy will be affected. This is the first time that the civic body will construct a skywalk on its own.

Recently, BMC had planned for the reconstruction of the Bandra east skywalk. They had also planned for the extension of the Santacruz east skywalk; however, both of them were constructed by other government agencies. The Malad skywalk is designed and is being carried out by the BMC.

The locals have complained that the skywalk will be close to their buildings which can result in anyone seeing into their place and fear that their privacy will be invaded.

Civic officials, while addressing the situation, said that soon after construction, the work is delayed by almost two months due to the opposition of locals. The official said that they are trying to resolve the issue so that the work can be started soon.
