Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has directed officials to identify encroachments that existed before January 1, 2011, and assess their eligibility for regularisation. A committee headed by the Konkan Divisional Commissioner has been tasked with carrying out the survey and submitting its report within six months.
The survey will cover excluded areas in Mumbai and Pune where eligible occupants were not included in the state's previous regularisation exercise. Based on the committee's findings, the government will decide whether these residents can be brought under the policy.
Under the Maharashtra government's earlier decision, eligible occupants of residential encroachments on government land existing before January 1, 2011, will be rehabilitated with free 500-square-foot homes instead of retaining the encroached land, subject to eligibility and the applicable rehabilitation framework. The new survey aims to determine whether residents in the excluded areas can also benefit from this scheme.
