MMRDA to collect toll for the ₹22,000 crore Trans-Harbour link corridor project

After the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has become operational, it has decided to collect toll on the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL) corridor. Rather than outsourcing the MMRDA toll collection to a private firm, the authority will collect the toll revenue by itself and the Development Authority will only provide private firms the responsibility of maintenance of bridges.

MMRDA has projected the Trans Harbor Link project to be completed by 2022 and open it to the public. After that, it has also been decided to set up toll for 23 years for its cost and maintenance. According to the reports, the Authority can charge ₹175 for light motor vehicles, ₹265 for light commercial vehicles, ₹525 for trucks and buses, ₹790 for multi-axle buses, this toll will be collected in two ways - Payment in electronic toll collection and manual cash.

Notably, CCTV cameras will be installed on either side of Trans Harbor Road, which will further strengthen the safety of the passengers and in addition, information will also be given to the traffic control room. The estimated cost for this project is ₹22,000 crore and the link will connect directly to Navi Mumbai and the proposed international airport.
