Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has accused a BJP MLA of encroaching upon a public sports complex built by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and handing it over to a private trust with the backing of the Maharashtra government.
In a post on X, Thackeray claimed that the sports complex was developed by the BMC during the previous administration for the benefit of Mumbaikars, but has now been taken over by a trust allegedly linked to a BJP MLA. He alleged that public access to the facility has been denied following the takeover.
Thackeray further alleged that the BJP government was systematically handing over Mumbai's open spaces and playgrounds to its associates under the guise of development. Referring to the reported allotment of 16 acres of land to a trust, he questioned the state government's decision and sought to know the relationship between the trust and the Chief Minister.
He accused the Chief Minister of supporting the trust instead of protecting Mumbai's public spaces and described the move as "shameful."
The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader also appealed to Mumbaikars, political parties, resident associations, and Area Local Management (ALM) groups to join the party's proposed agitation against the alleged land allotment. He said details of the protest would be announced soon.
The Maharashtra government has not yet responded to Thackeray's allegations.
