Western Railway has recovered INR 83.25 crore in penalties from 11.30 lakh ticketless and irregular passengers during a large-scale ticket-checking drive conducted across its network. The action was taken as part of an intensified campaign to curb ticketless travel and ensure compliance with railway rules.
According to Western Railway, the ticket-checking drives were carried out by ticket-checking staff across suburban as well as mail and express trains. Apart from passengers travelling without tickets, action was also taken against those travelling with improper or irregular tickets.
Railway officials said the special drives are aimed at discouraging ticketless travel, protecting the interests of genuine passengers, and improving travel discipline across the network. They urged commuters to travel only with valid tickets to avoid penalties and legal action.
Western Railway has said it will continue conducting surprise ticket-checking drives across stations and trains to strengthen enforcement and promote lawful travel.
