In good spirit and to encourage doctors amid the fight against the coronavirus, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday announced a pay raise for doctors working on contract and bond with the state government.
The Maharashtra government has decided to not just to increase the honorarium given to the doctors on bond and contract but have put their pay at par, state Tourism and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray said in a tweet.
After Aaditya Thackeray’s request, the Maharashtra government reversed the earlier order proposing pay cut. Tagging them on Twiter, the Shiv Sena MLA expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Health Minister Rajesh Tope and Home Minister Anil Deshmukh for reversing the order.
“They are our covid warriors and this was due. An older order had proposed a reduction in pay, and I had requested the government to reverse this (sic)," Aaditya Thackeray said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister announced that the bonded doctors working in Adivasi areas will get ₹75,000 instead of ₹60,000. The specialist doctors on bond working in Adivasi areas will receive ₹85,000 instead of ₹70,000.
In other parts of the state, the MBBS doctors will get ₹70,000 instead of ₹55,000, the Chief Minister Office (CMO) Maharashtra announced while adding that specialist doctors working in other areas will get ₹80,000 instead of ₹65,000.
Earlier on May 19, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray wrote a letter to the Chief Minister pointing out that an order dated April 20 of Public Health Department reduces the pay of bonded doctors by around ₹20,000 a month.
The need for the hour was to motivate and incentivise government doctors and nursing staff. They are putting their lives at risk while fighting COVID-19, the letter read.
