After Bombay High Court upheld Maharashtra government’s decision to provide reservation to Maratha community, Advocate Gunaratna Sadavarte on Thursday expressed his disappointment with the same saying that the verdict is “unconstitutional”.

Advocate Sadavaret said that this decision is against the ideologies of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Sadavarte is the main petitioner who challenged the Maratha reservation passed by the state government.

Sadavarte further alleged that there is an influence of Maharashtra government and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the verdict carried out by the HC favouring Maratha reservation.

The decision carried out by Justices Ranjit More and Bharti Dangre will provide less space for jobs and education for people from general category. The decision is unconstitutional and is not acceptable to me. I will appeal in the Supreme Court against the same,” Sadavarte asserted.

On Thursday, in a landmark decision, Bombay HC declared the Maratha reservation quota as valid. However, the court struck down the 16 per cent reservation share saying that it is “not justifiable”. The HC asked the quota to be struck down to 12 per cent in education and 13 per cent in government job appointments.
