Ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, in a new development, the political speculations suggest that Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) might join hands with Samajwadi Party (SP). However, the leaders from the opposition parties are busy shifting their loyalties.

In case the Congress and NCP form an alliance with Samajwadi Party, the major opposition parties in Maharashtra will share the assembly seats from their quotas.

Earlier, during the 2014 assembly polls, SP had contested alone in Maharashtra on nearly every seat. However, except Abu Asim Azmi, no other candidate was elected.
