We will continue our opposition against CAA, NRC, NPR: Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui

After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray hinted that his government will implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Population Register (NPR).

Reacting to this, Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui said that his party stands against the CAA and NPR and is strongly against the implementation of the same in Maharashtra. 

“Congress’ stand is clear on the CAA and NPR. Our party is strongly against the implementation of CAA and NPR and will continue to oppose the same. We also stand against NRC. We are not in favour of implementing CAA, NRC and NPR in Maharashtra. We will talk to CM Uddhav Thackeray and will convince him,” the Congress MLA said.

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had said that he will not block the implementation of the NPR process. The CAA, NPR will not a problem to anyone, CM Thackeray added. However, Thackeray had informed that the NRC will not be implemented. 

On Friday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which the issue of CAA, NPR and NRC was discussed. While talking to the media, CM Uddhav Thackeray reiterated that the CAA and NPR will not cause trouble for anyone. 

On Saturday, Uddhav Thackeray constituted a high-power committee comprising members from all three ruling parties would study it before making any decision of the implementation of the NPR.

The Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra have maintained their strong objection to the CAA, NRC and NPR.

The people are protesting against the newly amended citizenship law and the proposed NRC and NPR. The women across the country have organised sit-in protests to opposed the CAA, NRC and NPR.
