With the number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai, the requirement of staff for emergency services has also increased. While the skilled professionals are ready to help, they are unable to do so, as Mumbai local trains are shut due to the lockdown, and they are not able to use it as a mode of transport.

In a discussion held on Friday, May 29, 2020, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray stated that there was no option but to start Mumbai local service for the employees offering essential services. The meeting was also attended by Industries Minister Subhash Desai, Transport Minister Anil Parab, Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta, Municipal Commissioner I.S. Chahal.

Keeping the need mind, he said that arrangements should be made to provide PPE kits to these doctors for their safety and more staff would be required to continue medical and other essential services, for which local train services will be needed. Further, he asked the officials to follow up with the respective ministry and look at the possibility of running special local train services for the staff.

Officials also understood that it is very important for doctors to start their own private clinics for the treatment of other ailments besides coronavirus, considering the upcoming monsoon in Mumbai. Permission may be granted to resume the same after they have taken the mandatory coronavirus test and have a written recommendation. They can open their clinics if they feel safe to do so.

Maharashtra DGIPR took to Twitter on Friday, May 29, to share the information, and stated that one may be prone to many diseases during the monsoons and since the symptoms of some of these ailments are similar to coronavirus, necessary care needs to be taken. The government advised that if one observes symptoms like fever, dry cough, weakness, etc., necessary tests need to be taken immediately with the written permission from a doctor, for which they will have to take precautions for their own safety. Keeping this in mind, CM Uddhav Thackeray has said that the doctors should be provided PPE kits through the ward officers.
