With Maharashtra government’s decision to tweak Chhatrapati Shivaji's statue design, the opposition has lashed out at the ruling authority over this move. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Dhananjay Munde on Monday asked Maharashtra government to clarify its stand on the same.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Munde said that the government reduced the height of statue it plans to construct. “What is the reason behind this? Is this decision taken to reduce the cost of the project?” asked the NCP leader seeking explanations from the government.

According to the reports, height of statue will be shorter than it was originally planned. However, height of the sword has been made longer in the design.

We will not tolerate this humiliation. The height of statue should remain as it was planned before and shall not be reduced, even if the budget reaches ₹400 crore,” Munde objected, adding that this is an insult to Shivaji Maharaj.

In the previous design of the statue, the height was mentioned at 121.2 meters. However, now, the height of the statue has been reduced to 75.2 meters.
