Amid the political uncertainty in the state, Maharashtra Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded to declare Aarey as a forest.
Along with this, AAP has demanded compensation for the farmers in Maharashtra affected due to untimely rains to be compensated as per the recommendations mentioned in the Swaminathan Commission report.
AAP said that those trying to form the government in Maharashtra should include the compensation for farmers and declaration of Aarey as a forest under the ‘Common Minimum Programme’ (CMP).
It may be recalled, that despite the SC giving the Maharashtra State Govt 3 weeks, it still didn't file its reply detailing an exhaustive list of proposed construction activities and related projects in Aarey,” said AAP in a statement.
AAP further mentioned that all parties - Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP - who are forming the government in Maharashtra have “pledged support to conserve Aarey at all costs”.
We demand the declaration of Aarey as a forest, withdrawal of any proposed construction, to be a part of the Common Minimum Programme as an immediate actionable agenda for Mumbai," said AAP spokesperson Preeti Menon.
The Maharashtra Govt has announced ₹8,000 and ₹18,000 per hectare for Kharif crops and horticulture crops, respectively.

However, AAP said, “this is a pittance when compared to ₹50,000 per hectare, the highest in the country, awarded by the AAP government in Delhi.”
