Amid the ongoing protests over the Maratha reservation issue, Maharashtra government has hinted to introduce the Maratha reservation bill in the winter session of the state Assembly on November 28. However, the opposition wants the report on the same to be presented before the house.
Earlier, the State Backward Class Commission submitted its report on Maratha reservation where it suggested 16 per cent reservation to the Maratha community. However, this sparked a row among the Other Backward Class (OBC) community. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis cleared the air by assuring that OBC reservation quota will not be affected while providing reservation to the Maratha community. CM Fadnavis also informed that the Maratha community will get a reservation under a new category – Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC).
Earlier, Maharashtra government had informed Bombay High Court that they have only accepted the recommendations suggested and not the whole report.
Earlier on Sunday, while addressing the gathering at an event, Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil said that the Maratha community will get reservation till Friday hinting that the state government might introduce a bill on the same.
However, the opposition parties have warned that if the report is not presented before the assembly, they won’t let the house function. Earlier, The state government had also formed a sub-committee led by Patil to process a law for the reservation.
