The state government has relaxed some lockdown rules under ‘Mission Begin Again’ initiative and allowed businesses to resume outside of the non-containment zones. The daily travel has resumed on-road and has been functioning in the Mumbai Metropolitan Regions (MMR) for a while now. However, as per reports, the potholes on the Kalyan-Shil road are causing a lot of traffic congestion for the commuters from the areas of Kalyan, Dombivali, Badlapur, Ambernath, and Ulhasnagar.

Keeping this situation in mind, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raju Patil has demanded the Mumbai local train services to start for these cities by taking proper precautions. The MNS leader from Kalyan-Dombivali took to social media to raise his concerns and tagged the official account of the Office of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in his tweet.

Recently, a review meeting was held regarding the work of the Kalyan-Shil road. The meeting was attended by MNS leader Raju Patil,  Executive Engineers of MMRDA and MSRDC, Thane Municipal Corporation and the Forest Department Officers of Thane. Issues like the Mumbra-Shil road widening at Kalyan, proposed flyover at Kalyan, encroachment near Datta temple, reconstruction of Gavdevi temple, reconstruction of Datta temple and widening of Shil-Bhiwandi road were discussed at the meeting. After the major road and infrastructure discussions, Patil made a demand for local trains to start functioning considering the difficulties faced by the commuters in parts of the MMR.

Currently, the suburban local services, which are an integral part of public transport in Mumbai, are closed to the general public due to the coronavirus pandemic. This has made it difficult for citizens in the city, to reach their offices on time.

Patil has demanded that at present, a limited number of local train services should be extended to the commuting general public. On the other hand, MNS President Raj Thackeray has also been constantly demanding the removal of the lockdown across the state.
