After Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray heavily criticised Narendra Modi during his Gudi Padwa rally, MNS party workers pulled down Gujarati signboards at some commercial establishments in Vasai. In total, they pulled down over 20 signboards on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, confirmed Kundan Sankhe, Thane (rural) MNS president.
The steps we have taken is for the people of Maharashtra. If shopkeepers agree to put up the board in Marathi while applying for trade license, then it is a crime to put up a board in the Gujarati language. We have only pulled down the boards and not shops. We will continue our agitation for the Marathi language,” Kundan Sankhe, Thane (rural) MNS president.
Last year in July, some MNS had protested against a jewellery shop in Dadar and a hotel in the Mahim area of Mumbai, asking them to remove the signboards in Gujarati.
