Mumbai Congress President Milind Murli Deora attacked Shiv Sena while accusing the party of hurting religious sentiments of the Jain community. Deora appealed to the Jain community to vote against Shiv Sena in the Lok Sabha elections which will be held this month.

Earlier, during Paryushana festival, Shiv Sena workers had cooked meat outside Jain temples. This act was an insult to the Jain community and religion,” said Mumbai Congress President Milind Murli Deora while speaking at an event.

A few years ago, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had banned slaughterhouses for four days during Paryushana festival which is celebrated by the Jain community in the month of August or September every year.

Reacting to this, Shiv Sena along with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) protested by cooking mutton and chicken in areas dominated by Marathi-speaking population.

Deora’s attack on Shiv Sena can be damaging for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as it gets a huge share of votes from the Jain community.  BJP and Shiv Sena have joined hands together ahead of the LS polls.
