The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has allotted the ticket for North-East Mumbai to Manoj Kotak which means that Kirit Somaiya will not receive candidature for the seat
In a recent turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has
allotted the ticket for North-East Mumbai seat to Manoj Kotak. The
candidature being awarded to Kotak implies that BJP leader Kirit Somaiya
has been ignored for the seat. The reason behind his elimination seems
to be his constant criticism of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena who are in alliance with BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha election.
The alleged involvement of Shiv Sena is in regard to Somaiya constantly nagging about the ruling party at the Brihanmumbai Municipal
Corporation (BMC). Allegedly, the Thackeray-led party workers had
expressed their opposition against Somaiya's nomination for the
seat.
For the last few days, the discussion about who will be BJP's
candidate for the North-East seat was going on but on April 3, the party
confirmed Manoj Kotak as the candidate. It would now be interesting to
see how Somaiya reacts to the decision.
Meanwhile, it is being rumoured that Kirit Somaiya will be provided
with a Rajya Sabha nomination. The reports are yet to be confirmed. So will it be a win-win situation for BJP and Shiv Sena or will it mark a new chapter in Maharashtra politics, remains to be seen.
