Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske has criticised Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut over his remarks on the ongoing Supreme Court hearing regarding the Shiv Sena's name and election symbol, accusing him of making statements without any official basis.
Mhaske said Raut was speaking as if he already knew what the Supreme Court's verdict would be. He urged the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader to first study the Election Commission's order, which, according to him, recognised Shiv Sena as a single party and awarded its name and election symbol to the Eknath Shinde-led faction.
He alleged that the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction had abandoned the ideology of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray for political power. Mhaske further claimed that the UBT faction praises the judiciary when judgments are in its favour but questions the courts and judges when decisions go against it.
The Shiv Sena MP said his party remains committed to the ideals of Balasaheb Thackeray and the Constitution drafted by Dr B.R. Ambedkar. He also alleged that Sanjay Raut was making controversial statements to keep the remaining leaders of the Uddhav Thackeray faction united.
Taking a swipe at the opposition faction, Mhaske said the UBT should first focus on holding its own party together before commenting on Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He further alleged that the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena was preparing for a possible merger with the Congress.
Mhaske also claimed that instead of worrying about the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, Raut should be concerned about retaining his party's MLAs, MPs and corporators. He further alleged that Raut himself could join the Congress in the future to secure another term in the Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) has not yet responded to Mhaske's remarks.
