Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for mocking Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s aspiration to become the Prime Minister and said that “There is a democracy is our country, Rahul Gandhi has in his right to aspire to be the Prime Minister.”

Raut further slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for ridiculing the Congress party president and said that with the same right Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India instead of L K Advani.

Congress is still the biggest political party in the country but it was defeated under ‘Modi wave’ in 2014 elections. For the upcoming polls, the party needs to decide on Rahul Gandhi’s role. Sanjay Raut said that Sharad Pawar is also a worthy candidate. He also added that Rahul Gandhi has potential.

Raut further asserted that the BJP is not confident in Palghar area as it imported the Congress’ candidate to contest for BJP and replaced its previous candidate. The people are now questioning the confidence of the BJP.

Speaking about the senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal, Raut narrated that he is a political opponent and there is no personal grudge against him. Defending Bhujbal, he said that Karti Chidambaram - son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram – accused of money laundering was released on bail only after eight days of custody. Then why did Bhujbal spend two years in jail? he asked.
