After a long wait, Backward Classes Commission (BCC) on Tuesday submitted its progress report on Maratha Reservation to Bombay High Court. However, the commission is yet to submit its final report. While hearing the matter, Bombay HC ordered the commission to submit its final report by November 15 and asked to provide the court with progress reports after every four weeks until the deadline.
Earlier in 2014 and 2015, several petitions were filed regarding Maratha reservation issue and one of the petitions filed by Advocate Vijay Killededar, representing R.R. Patil Foundation President Vinod Patil, was heard by Bombay High Court.

With the latest Bombay HC order, the possibility of resolving Maratha reservation issue doesn’t seem far away as this development is a very crucial step towards resolving this matter. After Maratha reservation movement turned violent, Patil asked the high court to set a deadline for hearing the matter. Bombay HC ordered the state government to speed up the proceedings and asked the BCC to submit a progress report on same.

Backward Classes Commission was set up by Maharashtra government with a purpose to study the sociological and economic status of the community in regards to the reservation. The commission headed by Retired Judge SB Mhase has been asked to submit its final report by November 15.
