Sujata Suraj Patil has been elected as the Mayor of Navi Mumbai, while Dashrath Sitaram Bhagat has been elected as Deputy Mayor, following the election held for the civic body’s top posts.
The results were officially announced by Ranjit Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of the Thane Zilla Parishad, who presided over the proceedings as the Returning Officer. He congratulated and felicitated the newly elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor. At the beginning of the meeting, Municipal Secretary Sangharatna Khillare welcomed the presiding officer.
For the post of Mayor, Councillor Saroj Rohidas Patil, and for the post of Deputy Mayor, Councillor Akash Balkrishna Madhvi, withdrew their nominations. As a result, Sujata Suraj Patil and Dashrath Sitaram Bhagat were elected unopposed.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sujata Patil said that cleanliness, public health, education, environment, and traffic planning would be her key priorities. She emphasised providing opportunities for youth, ensuring women’s safety and dignity, respecting senior citizens, and delivering essential civic amenities to common citizens. Calling the Mayor’s post a major responsibility entrusted by senior leaders, she expressed confidence that disciplined governance would be ensured through guidance from senior members and cooperation from all councillors.
Deputy Mayor Dashrath Bhagat said that the position offered a significant opportunity to contribute to the faster development of Navi Mumbai, a city of national repute. He pledged to work tirelessly and honestly, adding that quality development work would be undertaken with the cooperation of all members. He thanked fellow councillors for electing him unopposed.
