The second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) claimed many lives across the country and several children lost their parents to the infection. These children are in need of support. Addressing this concern, NCP MP Supriya Sule, on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, said that both the government agencies need to work in harmony and with a serious motive of helping the children in need.
Sharing her thought on social media, Supriya Sule said, "Many families have been devastated due to the coronavirus pandemic and parental support for many children is lost today. The death of a working parent has also raised questions regarding the future of many children in India"
Following this, the state government made an announcement to support the children in need. CMO Maharashtra took to Twitter to state, "Financial assistance for children who have lost their parents due to COVID-19."
As per the announcement, the state government will deposit INR 5 lakh in the name of the child and the same will be handed over with interest when they are 21 years of age. Furthermore, the upbringing of the child will also be taken care of by the state government under the respective welfare scheme until the child attains maturity. In cases, where the extended family denies to take care of the child, he/she will be offered care by a children's home; and in case the extended family takes the responsibility for the child, they will be offered a grant from the concerned department.
