Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray addressed a joint public rally at Shivaji Park on Sunday, hailing the recent resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and describing it as a victory for the nationwide student movement.
Addressing the gathering, Uddhav Thackeray praised the youth for sustaining their protests and said the development demonstrated the power of public participation in a democracy. He urged students and young citizens to remain engaged in issues affecting the country, adding that the movement represented the beginning of a broader demand for accountability.
Referring to Pradhan's resignation, Uddhav said the government had been compelled to respond due to sustained public pressure. He also criticised the Centre over its handling of the protests and accused it of attempting to suppress dissent instead of addressing public concerns.
Raj Thackeray echoed similar sentiments, commending the students for their determination and discipline. He said the agitation had shown that peaceful public movements can influence political decisions when they receive widespread support.
The rally, held under the national flag without party banners, drew supporters from both Shiv Sena (UBT) and the MNS. The two leaders appealed for continued unity among citizens and reiterated their support for democratic protests and greater government accountability.
The event marked another joint appearance by the Thackeray cousins, signalling growing political cooperation ahead of key political developments in Maharashtra.
