In a significant administrative move, the Balasaheb Thackeray National Memorial Public Trust has been reconstituted by the Maharashtra government, and leadership of the body has been placed once again under former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The development has been detailed through an official notification, and it has been indicated that the restructuring has been undertaken to ensure continuity in the construction and supervision of the memorial being created in honour of Balasaheb Thackeray at the mayor’s bungalow site in Shivaji Park, Dadar.

It has been conveyed through the General Administration Department that the renewed composition of the trust has been framed with a combination of political appointees and senior bureaucrats. Former minister Subhash Desai has been appointed as secretary, and membership has been extended to Aaditya Thackeray, MLA Parag Alvani, and former legislator Shishir Shinde. The inclusion of these members has been designed to bring experience from both governance and public administration into the functioning of the trust. Alongside these appointments, it has been confirmed that ex officio representation will be provided by the state’s chief secretary, the principal secretaries of urban development (II) and law and judiciary, and the commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, with additional positions left for members elected through the general body.

The tenure of each member has been clearly defined under the reconstituted system. A five-year term has been assigned to Uddhav Thackeray, Subhash Desai, and Aaditya Thackeray, while Alvani and Shinde will serve for three years. Through the same notification, it has been authorised that Subhash Desai will be responsible for registering the new structure with the charity commissioner as mandated under the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950, and other relevant statutes. By granting this authority, the state government has ensured that the updated organisational structure is placed on legal record without delay.

It has also been highlighted that the trust has undergone earlier transitions. The body was first established in 2016 with Uddhav Thackeray at its helm. His resignation in 2019 had been prompted by the completion of the initial term, after which a fresh set of appointments had been initiated. A subsequent tenure under Aaditya Thackeray had then been completed, with its conclusion recorded on March 11, 2025. With the expiration of those terms, the latest restructuring has been enabled, and continuity in the memorial project has been restored through this renewed leadership framework.
