Mihir Shah has been sent to police custody till July 16 in the Worli hit and run case. He was arrested from Virar on Tuesday. When he was produced in Sewri court on July 10, he was remanded in police custody for seven days.
On July 7, a couple on a two-wheeler was run over by a BMW in Koliwada, Worli. In this accident, the man on the bike fell to one side. The woman got stuck on the bonnet of the car. The woman stuck on the bonnet was dragged by the car driver for about one to one and a half km. Also, the car ran over her body. After this brutal incident, the driver and the owner of this car absconded from the spot.
Meanwhile, as soon as this case came to light, the police immediately started an investigation. Mihir Shah, son of Rajesh Shah, head of Palghar district of Shinde faction - who has been now ousted from the party - was found guilty in the case. However, he too was absconding after the incident. After the accident, he first went to his girlfriend, then to his residence in Borivali, and then to a resort in Thane-Shahapur with his family. After that, he went to a resort in Virar with his friends after deceiving his family.
Meanwhile, during this period, everyone's phones were switched off. So the police could not reach them. However, his friend started calling Mihir for fifteen minutes and the police tracked him down and arrested him immediately. His mother, two sisters have been detained and his friend has been arrested.
He was produced in Sewri court on July 10. In the hearing, a scuffle was seen between the government prosecutor and Mihir's lawyer. The public prosecutor had requested that Mihir get police custody. But Mihir's lawyers argued that since all the investigations of Mihir have been completed, he no longer needs custody.
What did the police say in the argument?
The police had demanded in the court that Mihir should be remanded for seven days. All those who helped Mihir in this case are to be investigated. The police also told the court that they want to investigate if the accused had a driving licence.
What did the accused's lawyer say?
To counter this, Mihir's lawyer said, the car driver and Mihir have been interrogated face to face. The police have also confiscated his phone. So why do they want Mihir's custody now? The accused was taken to the spot as well. He has narrated the entire incident to the police. The answer of the driver and Mihir is matched. Therefore, the police do not have a strong reason to take Mihir into custody.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the judge remanded Mihir to seven days police custody till July 16.
