On the spectrum of good news, Mumbai-based resident and auto-driver Deshraj, whose story got viral last week after Humans of Bombay did a piece on him is on cloud nine after receiving INR 24 lakhs through crowdfunding.

Speaking to Humans of Bombay earlier in February, Deshraj had informed that he was responsible for looking after his granddaughters after the death of his two sons. Deshraj worked for prolonged hours and paid the school fees for his grandchildren and also sent one of them to Delhi for further studies, but in the process, ended up homeless due to financial troubles.

As it was financially impossible to continue his granddaughter’s education, Deshraj sold his house and continued living in Mumbai without a roof. He had further stated that the situation is “not bad” now as he eats and sleeps in his autos along with ferrying passengers throughout the day.

This story warmed the hearts of netizens with Congress's Archana Dalmia sharing it as well. Soon, fundraising pages were set up on social media as people across the country lend a helping hand to make Deshraj’s life better.

In recent developments, Humans of Bombay, thanking people for the help, has informed that Deshraj ji now has a roof over his head and can afford his granddaughter's education as well. The page further shared a video of Deshraj with the viral “pawri ho rahi” song where Deshraj can be seen smiling wide for the camera and grooving to the beats.
