Olympic Hero Khashaba Jadhav Traditional Sports Mahakumbh Begins in Mumbai on August 13

The Khashaba Jadhav Traditional Sports Mahakumbh will kick off on Wednesday, August 13, in Kurla, Mumbai. This initiative aims to preserve and celebrate India’s traditional sports and cultural heritage. It is being launched on the occasion of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Memorial Day, as announced by Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister for Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation.

Dedicated Ground for Indigenous Sports in Kurla

The ground of Jam Saheb Mukadam Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Kurla has been reserved exclusively for indigenous and traditional sports. During the event, the ground will be officially named “Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Desi Khel Maidan”, and its inauguration will take place at the same ceremony.

Exciting Traditional Games from August 13 to 22

The Mahakumbh will be inaugurated under the leadership of Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Manikrao Kokate. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will boost the enthusiasm of participants through a televised message. Ranjit Jadhav, son of Olympian Khashaba Jadhav, will be present at the event. Mumbaikars can enjoy the thrill of traditional games throughout the 10-day event.

Reviving Ancient Games

Minister Lodha stated that this Mahakumbh is being held in honour of Olympian Khashaba Jadhav to reintroduce and promote traditional games among the new generation. Ancient games from the Shivaji era like Lezim, Fugdi, Lagori, Viti Dandu, Pawankhind Race, Pawna Ladhvane, Tug-of-War, Wrestling, and Mallakhamb will be revived through this event.

Over 15,000 Participants Already Registered
