Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) has decided to increase the bus ticket fares from April 12. The proposal for the hike was approved on Wednesday in a meeting between BEST administration and Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA).

While talking to Mumbai Live, Senior Committee Chairman Anil Kokil informed that the cost of AC buses will increase from ₹5 to ₹10 and the hike varies from ₹1 to ₹12. The changes will come into effect from Wednesday midnight (Thursday 12:00 AM).

The decision comes as the BEST has been facing a huge loss and it has put an extra burden on the 30 lakh commuters. However, there will be no hike in the fares for the first four-kilometre journey.

For a six-kilometre journey, earlier the commuters paid ₹14 but now they will have to pay ₹15 and the commuters will pay ₹18 for eight kilometres instead of ₹16. The commuters will be charged ₹62 for 50 kilometres instead of ₹50.

For AC buses, the commuters would pay ₹30 instead of ₹25 and ₹140 for a 50-kilometre journey instead of ₹130.

The daily pass for adults, which was earlier for ₹40, will cost ₹50 and for children, it will cost ₹30 instead of ₹25. The commuters who want to travel the whole city via BEST bus service will now have to pay ₹90 instead of ₹70.
