Coming Thursday, i.e. from April 12, passengers who travel by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking buses, might end up paying more as the BEST committee has decided to increase their bus fares for the distance of more than 4 kilometers.
For now, the said proposal has been sent to the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Transport Authority (MMRTP) for an approval," Anil Kokil, Chairman, BEST.
Currently, the BEST runs 500 buses on a daily basis and nearly 30 lakh passengers use this service in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.
According to the BEST officials, fare will increase by ₹1 to ₹12 for distance of more than 4 km and there will be no fare hike for the distance less than 4 km. Also, fare of AC buses might go up by ₹5 and same can happen for the recently launched hybrid AC buses which runs in Mumbai, Thane, Mulund, BKC by ₹15 to ₹20.
