Finally, commuters will be able to commute in a new hybrid electric air-conditioned bus as the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has rolled out the service which will now run on longer routes from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) apart from within BKC. This service was inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from Sahyadri Guest House, Malabar hill on Friday morning.


Five Bus Routes

  • Bandra Terminus-Diamond market
  • Kurla station-ACBL
  • Bandra bus station-CA Institute
  • Sion station-Kalanagar-BKC
  • Sion station-LBS road-BKC

In order to improve bus connectivity to BKC, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has bought 25 hybrid electric buses which will be operated by BEST on behalf of MMRDA as both the parties have signed an agreement.

Commuters who travel to BKC from Thane, Vashi, Borivali, and Mira-Bhayander will get to travel in hybrid buses during the morning hours.

The maximum fare for commuting in a hybrid bus would be ₹105, while the minimum fare would be ₹15. MMRDA had signed a contract of 25 hybrid buses with Tata Motors in 2015.


Fare Structure

  • Borivli-BKC and Khar-BKC- ₹105
  • Thane-BKC- ₹90
  • Mulund-BKC- ₹60 rupees
  • Bandra and Kurla stations- ₹15 and ₹25

For about six months these buses were left dysfunctional as the first batch had arrived in September, the second batch arrived in early October and the last batch of the remaining buses arrived later.
