This step is to improve the internal commute between Bandra-BKC-Sion as MMRDA plan to make BKC a smart-city zone. Five hybrid buses are expected to hit the road in a month or so, according to Pravin Darade, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner.

25 buses have been purchased from Tata Motors and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present during this purchase in March 2016. These hybrid buses will be given to BEST eventually. “BEST will be responsible for maintaining the bus and will be in control of the functioning of it”, said Darade.

The bus will be completely functional once it is tested completely. The buses will run from BKC to Bandra, BKC to Kurla and BKC to Sion.
The bus can carry around 59 people where 31 could be seated and 29 could stand.

Each bus costs around Rs 1,67,00,000. MMRDA has spent Rs 50,00,00,000 on 25 buses (big numbers)

So get ready for a fancy ride soon, Mumbaikars!
