Nine months ago, a fire broke out in the monorail due to a short circuit at Mysore colony station, Wadala which caused the service to be shut down on the Chembur-Wadala route. However, the monorail service is going to be rolled out again between Chembur and Wadala from September 1.
For the last 2-3 months, there were several speculations about the continuation of the service but it has been confirmed that the transport service will resume soon.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) stated that the monorail will be back on track from September 1 and currently, the trains are being inspected and a trial is being conducted for the same.
The Monorail has been facing hurdles since the time of its launch. Recently, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the company that was laden with the responsibility of running the Monorail, demanded a five-fold increase in the payment of service fees per trip. The government too, is facing a loss of ₹5 lakh to ₹6 lakh due to the transport service.
While the Chembur-Wadala route is being resumed again, the Wadala-Jacob Circle route will still face a delay in resuming due to technical issues.
