Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is carrying out major upgrades at Virar station on the Western Railway line. To reduce the growing crowd at the station, a new home platform, Platform 5A, is being constructed. The target is to complete this work within 90 days.
This project is part of the preparation to introduce 15-coach local trains on the Virar–Dahanu route. Under the MUTP project, the third and fourth railway lines are being expanded, which includes widening Platforms 3A and 4A and extending their length by 3.5 meters.
These expanded platforms will also be connected to the new deck currently under construction. Due to these works, the timetable of local trains at Virar station will be revised, and some services will be cancelled. Specifically, no local trains will be available from Platform 3A at Virar until further notice.
The Dadar–Virar local that departs Dadar at 10:55 AM will now operate only up to Vasai Road.
Additionally, services between Vasai Road and Virar will be cancelled. The Virar–Dadar local that normally leaves Virar at 12:10 PM will instead depart from Vasai Road at 12:20 PM. This may cause inconvenience to passengers. However, the Railways has said that these measures are essential to manage future crowding on local trains.
