Mumbai Metro 2A and 7 Services Resume Fully; MMRDA Reveals Cause For Interruption & Steps Taken For Safety

The Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMOCL) announced the full restoration of Mumbai metro line 2A & 7 after temporary service adjustments on Wednesday, September 24.

Citing the cause for the inconvenience, the MMOCL stated that all the metro lines are now fully functional.

Reason for adjustments:

During today’s trial run on Metro Line 9, while the train was transitioning towards Line 7, a minor technical issue was encountered near the point section at Dahisar East. The train briefly halted, but services were swiftly managed to ensure smooth passenger movement.

Measures taken for uninterrupted services:

  • Loop operations were activated between Aarey - Ovaripada with single-line working in both directions. While there were slight delays on this stretch, service continuity was maintained with one line for both ways.
  • Short Loop Service: Between Gundavali - Aarey (both lines) were also operational to maintain connectivity.
  • Importantly, services on Lines 2A & 7, including all stations between Andheri West - Dahisar, remained fully operational.

MMOCL further shared that the safety of commuters is their priority. "Our maintenance team was immediately deployed, the issue was resolved promptly, and services are now running smoothly — once again reflecting Maha Mumbai Metro’s commitment to safe, reliable & seamless journeys for Mumbaikars."

It is pertinent to note that the number of passengers on the Dahisar–Andheri West Metro Line 2A and Dahisar–Gundavali Metro Line 7 has been steadily increasing over the past few months.

On September 16, a record 3,40,571 passengers travelled on these two lines the highest single-day ridership so far.

Metro Lines 2A and 7 were launched in two phases between 2022 and 2024. Initially, the response from commuters was low, with only around 30,000 passengers using the service daily. To boost ridership, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) introduced various measures, which have helped steadily increase passenger numbers over the last year.
