Mumbai: New car sheds at Vangaon and Bhivpuri for train maintenance

Mumbai Rail Development Corporation (MRVC) is constructing two new car sheds for maintenance of suburban trains in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

One is being constructed at Vangaon on the Western Railway (WR) and the other is being constructed at Bhivpuri on the Central Railway (CR) with a sanctioned cost of INR 2352.77 crore.

The completion date of the project is December 2025.

The new car shed will have state-of-the-art facilities and hi-tech sensors for train inspection, which is currently done manually. Each car shed will have the capacity to maintain around 65 cars at a time.

Mumbai's suburban network already has six car sheds, where more than 250 local trains are inspected and maintained every day.
