In order to take stern action against traffic rules offenders, Mumbai Traffic Department had introduced the digitised challan system against these violators. After the system was successful in Mumbai, now the traffic department plans to introduce it throughout the state.

Under the new project, 'One State, One E-Challan', the e-challan for traffic violators across the state will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase has already been enforced in Mumbai, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Pimpri, and Chinchwad whereas the second phase will cover the remaining parts of the state.

Meanwhile, the traffic police have discontinued the existing MTP mobile application in order to make the project digital-friendly. Accordingly, two new applications named as MUMTRAFFICAPP (for Mumbai city) and MAHATRAFFICAPP (for rest of Maharashtra) will be launched instead.
